How to Play

Play Kirby Buckets Scrawl & Brawl online for free. Scrawl & Brawl is a 7-stage platforming video game where you draw some of the in game items. Collect the stars and beat enemies to earn a high score. Defeat Dawnzilla to recover your missing sketches. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Select the play button at the bottom center of the game’s welcome screen.
- Your web browser automatically stores your game progress including beat levels, level ratings, and your drawings.
- If you have played the game before you can click on the continue button in the lower right corner or click on the new game button in the lower left corner..
- Game Controls
  - Desktop
    - Use the left and right arrow keys to move horizontally & the up arrow key to jump.
    - Tap the spacebar to attack using whichever weapon type you have equipped (melee or range attack).
    - Press the X key to block attacks.
    - Touchscreen devices
      - Use the on screen controls.
        The lower left corner of the game contains buttons to move left and right.
        The lower right corner of the game contains buttons for jumping, defending, and attacking.
        Controls & indicators
        Your sketchbook is in the upper left corner. After you have equipped features you can draw or redraw them at any time.
        A pause button is to the right of the sketchbook.
        In the top right of the level it shows your health bar and how many points you have scored in the current level.
        If you are in a boss battle in level 7 or at the end of levels 2, 4 or 6 the enemy boss health meter is shown at the top center of the screen and your super hero helper button appears periodically at the bottom center of the screen.
        Game Play
        Levels
        Level 1: This level teaches the basics of the game like how to move, collecting stars, avoiding dangers & hitting enemies with a melee weapon. You also open up the sketchbook to draw the character’s face & melee weapon on this level. The superhero Macho Taco is unlocked near the end of the level.
        Level 2: On the second level you get your throwing weapon. The level introduces switches which open doors. This level introduces cue cards where you can draw parts of the level like springs to jump on.
        Level 2 Boss Battle: At the end of level 2 you defeat Belinda the dinosaur with the help of Macho Taco. You can press the Macho Taco icon to call him to temporarily stun Belinda then attack her while she is stunned, or just use your throwing weapon on her without stunning her first. There are hearts on some of the higher platforms.
        Level 3: On the third level you unlock Doctor Gutpunch. You also draw the moving platforms which appear in future levels.
        Level 4: This level introduces flamethrowers which shoot flames at you periodically.
        Level 4 Boss Battle: You once again face Belinda. You can have Doctor Gutpunch stun her then hit her many times consecutively. Standing on the ledges at the left or right edge of the screen is a great way to avoid getting hit. If you go up for the hearts at the top of the screen be careful as she can hit you by jumping into you and there are horizontal flamethrowers which shoot flames out near where the hearts are.
        Level 5: Unlock Tributt on this level. Obtain and draw the shield, and practice blocking attacks.
        Level 6: This level has tons of switches which require you go back and forth across portions of the level many times. In some areas you need to ride moving platforms while holding in a block to avoid getting burned by flamethrowers.
        Level 6 Boss Battle: You face Belinda a third time. This time Tributt is your superhero helper. You can get about 4 or 5 hits in after each time he helps & when you are not attacking you can stand on the ledge near the left edge of the screen to avoid getting hit.
        Level 7: The final stage is a boss battle versus Dawnzilla. On this level you cycle through all 3 superheroes as helpers. This is quite easy to win if you use a superhero to knock her off balance & then run past the flame and onto the small platform near the level entrance then range attack from there (this attack position is shown in the screenshots below – third from the bottom). Obtaining a three pencil rating on this level is difficult as collecting all the stars is quite hard with 3 different types of fireballs shot at you, rocks falling from the ceiling & you have to pass by that flame thrower each time you fall to the bottom of the level to try to get back up again.
        Fighting
        Defeating enemies
        After the first level most enemies take two or three hits to beat.
        Boss battles take a couple dozen or more hits to defeat.
        Getting hit
        If you get hit in battle you are temporarily invincible, but you also can not attack while you are in that state.
        Most enemies also become stunned when hit & can not attack while stunned.
        If you get stuck in a stunned cycle it can make sense to back off rather than trying to attack.
        If you lose health you can collect hearts to restore it.
        Throwing items
        When you throw items they curve up slightly then arch back down.
        Any item you throw can hit multiple enemies.
        Battle strategy
        It is generally best to use range attack from afar.
        When you stun an enemy (other than a boss battle) you can typically keep attacking until they are defeated while repeatedly stunning them on each attack.
        Some enemies that are hard to reach without getting hit may be better to skip, or you may need to go past them further into the level and then circle back to beat them.
        Drawing in Sketchbook
        Throughout the game you can draw aspects of the game including your face, melee weapon, throwing weapon, hat, shield, jumping springs, and platforms.
        When you draw items they will appear transparent where they are not colored, so you may want to color parts of items white or black if you do not want them to be transparent.
        You can erase your most recent coloring using the undo button. You can use
        Scoring
        You can score up to 3 pencils on each level based on how many points you score.
        Stars are worth 50 points each.
        Enemies you destroy are worth points, with most enemies being worth 100 points and a few being valued at 150 points.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for platforming gamers of all ages & people who love hand-drawn art.
        The game has no adult content.
